It is important that preachers move from the sideline to the frontline. It is significant that the Black Lives Matter movement is the first Social Justice movement to impact black people, not led by a religious leader. As a consequence, churches have not been a part of the conversation, but just the aftermath.
My generation is a part because we cannot afford to be absent. When we look at statistics, we see white males lead in every area of crime, but Blacks disproportionately represent the prison population. When you make up 17 percent of the population, but 73 percent of the prison, it’s more often than not because of possession, and this is a serious issue that cannot be ignored.
I am a lead lobbyist to support the decriminalization of marijuana because I believe it will begin to flush the prison pipeline of innocent Black men who have a future and destiny.
